Composer | Sound artist

Nic McConaghy is an Australian electroacoustic composer and sound artist.  His primary interests lie in acousmatic composition, sound transformation and site specififc field recording.

He has been the recipient of numerous awards including:

  • First Place in the 2010 JTTP/Times Play Competition (CEC)
  • Participant 2009 Mamori Sound Art Residency (Brazil)
  • First Place 2008 Sound Devices Composition Contest
  • People’s Choice Award 2008 Sound Devices Competition Contest

Between 2004 and 2008 Nic undertook formal studies in composition and Music Production at the Australian Institute of Music, graduating in 2009 with BMus (Hons).  During this time he was fortunate to study electroacoustic music with Dr. Daniel Blinkhorn who fostered his interest and development as a composer of primarily acousmatic music.

He is currently enrolled as a PhD student within the School of Media Arts at the College of FIne Arts (UNSW).

His works have been broadcast and performed both at home and abroad.  Although his current output is primarily acousmatic, he has also worked successfully as a composer for film and small ensembles.
